Just some random shots from Williamsburg, it's such an interesting neighborhood. I did sneak in a LES shot though.
Can't wait till the weather warms up so I can do more photo walks.

La Perla
Old San Juan was a strongly fortified city, and stepping outside of the old castle walls was somewhat of an eye opening experience. Though I don't know about the history of the La Perla neighborhood from what I saw it was the slum of the city. A run down shanty town that was slapped on the side of the cliff. As I gingerly stepped down the steep stairs and carefully wade through the abandoned buildings I couldn't help but feel the adrenaline and excitement coursing through my veins.
At first I was somewhat nervous about my surroundings, it felt like zombies were going to burst through one of those boarded up windows.
Once I got to the bottom of the cliff, I saw a couple of newer buildings and there were some friendly faces that greeted me. As I wondered around I saw some really impressive graffiti.
An entire wall was just lined with these large paintings, it was really cool. The big smoking heart below was probably my favorite.
At first I was nervous going outside of the main streets but I was really glad in the end to make the trip. Outside of the tourists filled gift shops, outside of the casinos and the giant cruise ships. If you brave yourself to venture outside of those old city walls and climb down the cliff, something new and amazing might be waiting for you.
Until next time, adventure beckons...

Hurricane & Turkey can't keep me down
Since the last post, I've survived a hurricane, a week without power and two Thanksgiving meal. Isn't that medal worthy or something? Anyhow, continuing on with Puerto Rico, Old San Juan part 2.
It's embarrassing to admit but I really like walls & doors. I don't know what that means but it's becoming apparent that a large percentage of my photos are walls and doors. I foresee professional help in my future...
As beautiful as Old San Juan is, there is an air of desolation, parts of town seem like they been abandoned altogether. Upon closer examination a lot of the colorful buildings are actually for sale and peering into the windows you often see the buildings are run down or abandoned.
This last photo might be my favorite from the trip.

Streets of Old San Juan
As promised, the first of many installments of my trip to Puerto Rico back in August. I stayed close to Old San Juan and spent a couple days just walking all around the city. On the island, time seems to slow down, everyone is relaxed and friendly. The streets were filled with colorful buildings, aromas of food carts and music that move your feet.
I met a friendly guy on the street who told me more about the architecture and history of the old city. Apparently all the bright pastel colors were added later to attract tourists and the cobble stones had corral mixed in so they have this beautiful blue sheen to them.

More to come, stay tuned...
